Former Governor of Iran’s Southwestern port city of Abadan ‘Bahram Ilkhaszadeh’ in 2012 said that the city plans to encourage Chinese investment in the city’s development projects.
Speaking to News Agencies, he mentioned that Abadan has signed a sister-city agreement with Chinese Karamay city! in the Northwestern province of Xinjiang, and said based on the agreement Iran will encourage the Chinese make investment in Abadan!
He added that the policy is in line with the development of the region in different fields as well as introducing Abadan with its long history of oil activity!
To that end, a high-ranking Iranian delegation visited China at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and paved the ground for the agreement, the former governor went on to say.
Karamay or Kelamayi is a prefecture-level city in the north of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China. The name of the city comes from the Uyghur language, and means “black oil”, referring to the oil fields near the city.
Karamay was the site of one of the worst disasters in modern Chinese history, the 12-08 incident, when 324 people, 288 of them school children, lost their lives in a cinema fire on 8 December 1994.
